The scope fight will not determine who will fly the RJ, but rather if and when it will fly.
Misguided ALPA politicians have convinced ALPA's mainline pilots that the exploding population of RJ's represents a clear and present danger to their high pay and standard of living. Their response to this "threat" is a highly orchestrated and nationwide attempt to use their labor contracts to make the RJ economically unattractive, and thus limit its numbers. Under the pretext of "job security" the Delta union leadership has demanded the following from their management:
Mandatory furlough of Delta Connection pilots should mainline flying fall below predetermined levels
Delta Connection fleet size restricted at or near current levels
Delta Connection expansion limited by Delta's mainline fleet growth (not replacement)
Delta Connection schedules made even less productive because of route and market restrictions
"Profitability tests" to restrict the use of the RJ.
Cancellation or reduction of new small jet orders
All Delta Connection flying subject to review by a committee of mainline pilots
ALPA's foolhardy attempts to use their labor contracts to impose artificial constraints on the marketplace will undoubtedly harm the flying public, the aerospace industry, and all who depend upon the RJ for their livelihoods.
Please support our efforts to protect the free marketplace and stay tuned for more updates.
Thank You,
RJDC
